The biggest financial institution in Russia, Sberbank, has debuted GigaChat, its most recent piece of AI-driven technology. The chatbot, claims that it is a competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT, and is only available during testing periods via invitation. Since Western countries reduced their exports to Russia and sanctions were put in place following the Ukraine conflict, Sberbank has made significant investments in technology. This is viewed as a strategy by Russia to reduce its reliance on imports.
The most notable characteristic of GigaChat is its capacity for intelligent and fluent Russian conversation, which gives it a substantial advantage over other global neural networks. It can produce graphics, carry on conversations, write code to create software and respond to questions. The multimodal aspects of the chatbot, which has been trained in Russian, give it an advantage over ChatGPT, which only supports text now.
Sberbank is also counting on GigaChat's picture-generation powers, which are comparable to OpenAI's DALL-E image generator.
Some media outlets and businesses in Russia have turned to deep fakes for marketing due to Russian hackers using AI for content and deep fakes. However, the nation has distanced itself from OpenAI's ChatGPT due to growing concerns about the potential exploitation of AI. Because Russia is not in a position to allow AI to take control of the narrative, the chatbot is not accessible there.
The chatbot developed by Sberbank is a component of the bank's digital transformation strategy, and other tech investments include cloud services and driverless vehicles. With 30% of all savings and loans in Russia, Sberbank aims to dominate the nation in terms of technology. Longer conversations cannot currently be held on GigaChat, but the platform has been designed as a multimodal tool with the potential to support video, audio, and other features in the future. Sberbank's investment in technology demonstrates that the Russian tech sector is familiar with AI and all related advancements.
In a nutshell, GigaChat's most important advantage over other global neural networks is its capacity to communicate intelligently and fluently in Russian. It would be interesting to watch how GigaChat evolves and its effect on the Russian tech sector as Sberbank makes further investments in technology. The adoption of the chatbot and its potential abuse will be significantly influenced by the ongoing indirect conflict between Russia and Western countries.
