Navi Mumbai Metro opens

After 12 long years of delay, the Navi Mumbai Metro was finally inaugurated on 17 November 2023. The Metro faced many bureaucratic issues and was plagued with corruption allegations.

After multiple contract changes, the Maha Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL) brought the 11.1 km project on a fast track with an additional budget of 100 crore rupees. The construction was finally completed in June 2023. However, the project still waited an inauguration from an important figure head. Due to the lack of a VVIP visit, the metro remained unopened.

On 16 November 2023, CM Eknath Shinde gave an unexpected statement regarding the opening of the metro. The metro would be opened on friday 17 november 2023 without a VIP inauguration.

The metro will operate everyday from 6am to 10pm with a 15 minute interval between each train.

The fares of Navi Mumbai Metro Belapur-Pendhar Line 1 are as follows:

– Rs 10 for 0 to 2 km

– Rs 15 for 2 to 4 km

– Rs 20 for 4 to 6 km

– Rs 25 for 6 to 8 km

– Rs 30 for 8 to 10 km

– Rs 40 for more than 10 km
