The Navi Mumbai Metro runs from Belapur to Taloja on a 11km track. The project's construction started in 2010 and hasn't yet been under operation. The contract was given to CIDCO and other sub contracts were given to various other companies. The sub-contract winners were notorious amongst BMC and other governmental organizations to the extent that they were blacklisted by the Maharashtra Government. There have been various other conflicts between contractors which led to huge delays. The construction of the project was left almost deserted for around 4-5 years. The COVID-19 pandemic further extended the delay and the project missed few more deadlines. In 2021, the Maharashtra Government handed over the project to MMRCL (Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited), sidelining CIDCO. In addition, the project was given a Rs500 crore boost.

Current Status:
The metro line was going to be inaugurated by PM Modi in January 2023 but this was pushed due to a lack of 'finishing touch'. At present the metro line is almost complete with regular trial runs being conducted. The stretch from Kharghar to Taloja was completed in 2022 and now Belapur and few other stations have also been completed and are waiting an inauguration.
