On 6 May 2023, nearly a year after Charles III succeeded the late Queen Elizabeth II as the King of The United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth Realms, after her demise on 8 September 2022, King Charles III's coronation ceremony finally took place.

Where the Coronation happened
King Charles III, a man who waited almost 74 years to become the king, was finally crowned at Westminster Abbey, the royal church in London. Westminster Abbey has a great history of coronations, as 40 coronations including this one have taken place there. The first ever documented coronation at the church took place on 25th December 1066, of William the Conqueror.

The Coronation Procession
The Coronation ceremony is an essentially religious one. The King and Queen-consort traveled by a horse-drawn coach from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey as part of the Procession. They then swore the oath over the Holy Bible, promising to govern the people of The United Kingdom and all the Commonwealth Realms according to their own laws and justice. The representatives of the Church of England and the Royal Family declared their allegiance to him and people throughout all the commonwealth realms were invited to do so. The ceremony was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. However, the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla was altered from the past British coronations, to represent multiple faiths, cultures, and communities across The United Kingdom.

Guests
The ceremony was a grand one, as over 2000 guests including members of the royal family, world leaders, and celebrities were present. Around 5000 troops arrived at the London Waterloo station by train for the Coronation. American pop star Katy Perry also performed a concert at the Coronation, even missing her judging role on the American Idol to fly to London. Lionel Richie, the first global ambassador of King Charles III's charity, The Prince's Trust, also performed. 'Take That', an English pop group also appeared with three of its original members: Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, and Mark Owen.
