Gujarat's efficient handling of the cyclone is now recognized as a top disaster management model globally due to its effective management of Cyclone Biparjoy. Mansukh Mandaviya, a union minister who is a native of Gujarat, praised the Narendra Modi administration for its all-encompassing strategy for minimizing the cyclone's effects. Despite its violent landfall on the coast of Kutch, the state took preventative measures to guarantee no fatalities. Let's examine the main factors that contributed to Gujarat's excellent disaster management response.
Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy was a powerful, long-lasting tropical cyclone that developed over the eastern Arabian Sea. It was first identified by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on 6 June, originating from a depression. Biparjoy accelerated northeastward, strengthening to an extremely severe cyclonic storm. The cyclone made landfall in Naliya, Gujarat, India on June 16.
The Gujarat government successfully evacuated more than 1.1 lakh people from the affected coastal districts with an unwavering dedication to public safety. In order to hit the zero-casualty goal, the evacuation process needed to be carefully planned and carried out. Women received special treatment, ensuring their safety throughout the crisis. In order to ensure the security of vulnerable populations, Minister Mandaviya personally oversaw the evacuation efforts.
Gujarat's approach to disaster management included a variety of actions. More than 600 shelter homes were built, each with a ration of food, clean water, and other necessities good for over a week. Swings were even installed at the children's shelter homes as an act of compassion, restoring a sense of regularity in the midst of the crisis. Additionally, the necessary preparations were made to guarantee the accessibility of medical facilities, oxygen, and beds, meeting the affected population's medical needs.
The way in which Cyclone Biparjoy was handled in Gujarat is evidence of how well the Modi administration handled disasters. Gujarat has elevated the standard for disaster management by quickly evacuating vulnerable populations, guaranteeing their safety in shelter homes, and offering all-encompassing relief measures. The state's preventative actions and teamwork in responding to natural disasters serve as an example for the rest of the world.
