The tech giant has recently been accused of using child labor to mine the mineral. Cobalt plays in important role in the production of many electronic products. Unfortunately, many nations which are involved in mining it are poor like the Democratic Republic of Congo where usage of child labor has become a common site. Also, the process of cobalt mining is an energy and a water consuming process which also has caused a lot of deforestation. This has garnered criticism from around the world.

Due to these issues, apple has decided to switch to using recycled cobalt completely by 2025 which is more environmentally sustainable and at the same time will help Apple to further improve it's image in the market.
